Per doctor's orders, we've had Abby on the B.R.A.T. diet this week. B.R.A.T., which is an acronym for Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast, is gentle on the stomach and helps bind up people who are having diarrhea issues. So, in addition to formula, Abby was fed a steady stream of bananas, applesauce, and rice since Monday. Once her diarrhea stopped on Tuesday, we began to introduce small amounts of other foods, like pears and sweet potatoes, but she was still getting more of the B.R.A.T. foods than she would normally receive. (As you may remember from this post, the doctor actually had us introduce pears and prunes first, because poor little Abby was a little on the constipated side. We had reduced her rice consumption and we've been going pretty light on the bananas and applesauce, too.)
Well, yesterday, Abby was very, very fussy and we realized that our poor little munchkin was constipated! She finally managed to get her poo out, and then she was much better. Carey gave her some prunes before bed last night, so hopefully she won't have such a hard time today. Poor little Abby: first she can't stop pooping, and now she can't poop! Good grief!
