This past weekend, Carey took on the backyard. Bart was nice enough to come over and mow the front lawn for us two weeks ago, but the backyard hasn't been touched since we moved in. (And based on the condition it was in when we got there, it hadn't been touched for a while before that either...) Anyway, Carey has been itching to do some work to the outside of the house, but there's been so much to do inside first. So, we agreed to do basic outdoor maintenance this year (mow the lawn, clean the gutters, etc.) and save any big projects (planting new grass, redoing the flower beds, etc.) until next year.

Carey had to go into work on Saturday morning, but when he got home in the afternoon, he borrowed Bart's lawn mower and tackled the front and back yards. It was not an easy task (and one that I have no experience with), so I'm very lucky that Carey is so willing to take it on! Well, as you can see from the pictures, Carey had to fight hard, but he emerged victorious and we now have a backyard that once again looks like a backyard. (It needs A LOT of work, but it will be a nice project for us to work on later. Plus, I'll need the winter to learn more about gardening and plan out my flower beds!)

For Father's Day, Abby and I are getting Carey a new lawn mower. Being the conscientious consumer that he is, Carey wants to do all his research before we buy anything, so we don't have the new mower yet. Hopefully we'll have some pictures of Carey's new "baby" this weekend!
