What We Do All Day...

Now that we're a one-income family, I'm always looking for fun things to do with the kids on the cheap. And by cheap I mean as close to free as humanly possible.

So what have we been doing this summer? Hmmm, let's see...

On Monday, August 6th, we attended "Monday Minnows" at the Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum. For a small fee ($6), we were able to participate in some ocean-inspired free play, listen to a story, play with bubbles (that session's theme) and make a bubble-maker. While Zach was a bit too young to participate this year, he's a people watcher, so he loved watching all the bigger kids playing and blowing bubbles.
Bubbles!!

I promise you: Zach was way more excited than he looks in this photo.
{On a side note: notice the shirt? "Whale Xing", at the Whaling Museum. Nerdy mom fun!}

Abby decorating her bubble maker (a.k.a. - the top of a soda bottle).

Don't know if you can see it, but it actually works. The proof is in the bubble!

On Tuesday, August 14th, we went to our local library for "Hey Diddle Diddle," a program of songs and rhymes for babies. Zach loved it, and Abby loved watching after her baby brother.

Hey, it was my birthday, so you bet that I'm gonna put both kiddos in their Mets gear. :-)

Later that day, we went to Northport Family Night. The village of Northport closes Main Street to vehicle traffic, and people can wander along the street, checking out businesses, vendors, and grabbing a bite to eat. Carey even came home from work early (since it was my birthday) so the four of us were able to go together.

That cotton candy is bigger than her head...

Beautiful painted face!

Last night, we headed over to Planting Fields Arboretum for an outdoor production of Cinderella. While Abby is normally more of a "Belle" girl, she was pretty darn happy to don her Cinderella outfit and enjoy a princess night!

My Cinderella, waiting for the show to begin.

Zach didn't have any idea what was going on onstage, but he loved "people watching"!

This smile was worth waiting in the very long line to meet Cinderella and her prince. :-)

So, this is what we do. We spend time together. We search out inexpensive ways to have fun. And we make memories. Priceless.
