Carey's Good Deed = Our Good Time

My Carey is wonderful. Really, he is. Not only is he a wonderful husband, father, and friend, he is amazingly generous to people he doesn't even know. You see, my hubby has a blood type (B negative, Rh negative) that is rare. So, ever since he started donating blood, as soon as he is able to donate again, our local Red Cross calls him and asks him to schedule another donation appointment. Because his blood type is rare. And because his blood can be given to premature babies. And because his platelets can be given to cancer patients. So what does my Carey do? He donates. Time and again. Because he is selfless and wonderful like that. (Side note: Carey has also registered with the National Marrow Donor Program. Someday, my husband may donate bone marrow to save the life of a total stranger. My eyes are tearing up just to think about it. I love him. I love his generosity. And I love how he never gives it a second thought. When asked to register, he asked how to do it. That was it. No thinking it over. No worrying about it. No second thoughts.)

When Carey was asked to donate platelets at the beginning of the summer, he made an appointment to donate. As it happens, for every platelet donation made during the summer months, the donor was given a set of tickets to Citi Field, the new home of the Mets. Carey himself is a Yankee fan, but knowing that I'm a big Mets fan, he asked me to go with him to the game. Yay! Carey's good deed meant that we could have a great evening together at the ballpark!

Citi Field!

Our first view of the field after entering the stadium

Carey enjoying a pulled pork sandwich from Blue Smoke (Whether you're a Mets fan or not, you have to admit that Citi Field has awesome food at the stadium!)

Me and Carey, all smiles in the first inning, when things were going well

On our way home, Carey took a picture of me beneath the Citi Field sign while sporting my Carlos Beltran Mets jersey

Sad faces - Final score: Mets 4, Marlins 11

Special thanks to Bart and Melissa, who watched Abby so Carey and I could enjoy the game together. Hopefully, the end result will be better the next time we make it to a Mets game! (Although, even if it's not, I grew up as a Bills fan, so I'm used to disappointment and have learned to be very, very, VERY patient with my team!)
