Today is Day 71 of the Bible in 90 Days program. I am on schedule and going strong - yay!
A few reflections on the past week's readings:
First, I love the book of Jonah. I don't know why, but I've always related to Jonah. (And yes, I know that's not a great thing.) I often resist the path that God has set out for me and, more often than I'd like to admit, I find myself lamenting the loss of things that I did nothing to earn/gain. Reading Jonah's story makes me pause to reflect on how I am consciously or unconsciously fighting against God's plan for me.
Second, I love the fact that the Old Testament prophets, while talking of the destruction of Israel, always end with the restoration and blessing of the people. God is vengeful, but He is also forgiving.
Finally, I love reading the New Testament and seeing how Jesus is the fulfillment of so many words spoken by the prophets of the Old Testament. The books are not separate, but intricately related.
I can't believe that we have just over two weeks left in this cycle of the program. Reading God's Word, cover to cover, really is an amazing experience. While Bible studies offer valuable insights into specific themes or books of the Bible, there is a new level of understanding that comes with reading the Word in order from start to finish.
Please stop by Mom's Toolbox to read some inspiration from Amy and my fellow readers.
