Poor Abby...

This must be why Abby is so tall. She loves to stretch!!

Our little munchkin is having a rough go of it today. We had an appointment with our pediatrician this morning. She is doing GREAT!! She has gained one pound and three ounces since our last visit, weighing in at 11 pounds, 9 ounces (50% percentile). She also grew another inch in the last month, so she is now 23.5 inches tall (75% percentile). She is holding her head up very well now, and she will follow objects with her eyes. She also recognizes voices, and if you call her name (or one of her many nicknames), she will move her head around to try and find you. The doctor does want Abby to spend more time on her tummy. (She's not a big fan, which I told the doctor, so he gave us a few tips about how to get her to spend some more time on her belly. Any other suggestions would be appreciated, though!!) We're now slowly moving into our 3-6 months clothes. Abby still fits into some of her 0-3 months clothes, but others are too short for our tall little girl. :-)

Now for the bad news: the test once again came back positive for blood in Abigail's poo. Dr. Caravella said that, in all other areas, she is doing great, but he is concerned that, 6 weeks after switching her formula, she is still having blood in her stool. (Most babies with this allergy have negative tests after 4 weeks.) That means that there is still inflammation in her digestive tract. The doctor said that it could just be taking Abby a little longer to heal, but he is concerned that there is still blood present. So, we are going to see a GI specialist tomorrow afternoon. My poor little munchkin... :-( I'll post again after our appointment tomorrow. In the meantime, your prayers for little Abby would be greatly appreciated!!

Abby also had to get two more immunizations at her appointment this morning. One was oral, which didn't seem to bother Abby at all. The other was in her left thigh, which she took surprisingly well. You may remember that, at her last appointment, Abby screamed and cried after her Hepatitis B shot. Well, it must have been since Daddy was at this appointment because Abby didn't cry at all! Mommy's little champ!! She made a sound when she was first given the shot, but then she just looked at us, like "Hey, is someone gonna pick me up??" I always joke with Carey that he is so good about getting Abby to go to sleep at night that he is "Magic Daddy." Well, he was definitely "Magic Daddy" at our appointment today, too!

Dr. Caravella said that some babies develop a fever after this specific vaccine, so he put us on a regiment of infant Tylenol for half of the day today, with instructions to call his office if she's still exhibiting signs of fever after the next 48 hours (or sooner if we feel the need). Luckily, Abby seems to be fine. She's actually asleep right now and she is still cool to the touch, so I'm hoping we can avoid a fever; this poor little girl has enough to worry about already!

try this: put her on her belly on a blanket on the floor. Open up cardboard books and stand them up so that she can see them. She may just lay there and look at the pictures at first but eventually I think she will start lifting her head to see the pictures. First have them at her sides but then set up a few straight ahead so when she lifts her head, she'll see them. I have pictures of your cousins on their bellies "reading" books that are standing up in front of them. You can occasionally turn the pages too for variety!
Abby sounds like she is doing well! We are so happy for her.

Wow! She is getting so big so fast! I will be praying for her speedy healing and recovery on all fronts.

Also, tummy time can be rough. I was never very good at making Sierra do tummy time and I joked that that was the reason she rolled from back to tummy first! I wish I had more suggestions. My biggest suggestion is just don't force it; try for a few minutes at a time and don't worry, it will come. We learned the best tummy time was when Sierra would lay on Daddy's chest. She always loved that (and still does). It really helps with building up the neck muscles too.

Lots of love and prayers to you guys!
